Cursive Q's and other thoughs

When I turned 30, my Aunt Susan told me to start keeping a journal, sounded like a good idea. So over the last 8 years I have, off and on written and or typed in a journal type atmosphere.

Yes I have written, as in pen on paper, except I prefer a pencil. Someone told me today that he had written with a pencil for the first time in years this weekend. Strange, I thought, I prefer a pencil, it was created before the delete key and just as effective! Anyway, I looked back over some of the things i have written and my handwriting is atrocious (please appreciate that word, it took me a few tries to get my spell checker to agree with my spelling!) The more I use my computer, which is, 10 to 12 hours a day, the worse my handwriting gets. The other day I realized I couldn't remember how to make a cursive or written Q. Think about it, when was the last time you tried a cursive Q? (A CursiveQ it sounds like a trendy drink in an upscale bar) The first and probably last time I remember writing a Q was in first grade on those newsprint tablets that were wider than they were tall, with the blue parallel lines and dotted lines in the middle. Perfectly proportioned so we could learn to make beautiful upper and lowercase letters. HA!

I digress, sorry. My point, well one of them, is with my handwriting crumbling away, what else will we loose to technology. Oh, I already cant live without my ipod, camera and laptop, so technology is already taking over. I mean, when I type in Word, the program finishes and corrects word for me. Will there come a time I just have to think half of what I want to write and the rest will "appear" out of nowhere? What about your cell phone? Do you remember the numbers you have programed into the thing, I dont! I cant remember J's number at work, Jenny's work number, Rays cell number, Mother In Laws home number, its all stored in the small bit of plastic, rubber and metal that's smarter than me!!

What about books? I love to read, i love books period. Not just reading them, I love the look the feel, the smell of them. Have you ever gotten a brand new book, unopened by anyone else. I like to open it slowly, hear the pages break their staticee (yea I made that word up) bond to each other, and smell it, yea smell it. Next time you get a new book, smell it. My point here is if technology is killing my ability to write a cursive Q, and remember phone numbers, what is going to do to people who do not already love to read? Will their lives be dominated by TV? Reminds me of the BOOK, Fahrenheit 451, yes the book, not the movie or TV show. I love this book, its one of the classics they make you read in High School, except I devowered this book. I bought a new copy just to re-read it. Anyway, in this book, set sometime in the future the "Firemen" are employed to start fires in any home where books are found. Guy Montag is the fireman and his wife Mildred is someone who is totally dependent on sleeping pills and the 'ear buds' wirelessly and constantly conected to the TV. Guy accidentaly reads something in a book in a house he is supose to burn, he takes this book and so the story goes on. Is this where we are headed? Burning books and earbuds permenently in our ears.

I'll end this with one of my favorite quotes to Montag "Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores." So smell your new books, they can smell you!

Surveys and Legacys

I was reading a survey on my MySpace page and it occurred to me how strange, maybe silly some of these things are. I like filling them out, its fun and a great time waister/filler. Whatever. Anyway, my favorite things, i have been thinking about my favorite things and decided to take one of these surveys and answer most of it and add a few of my own. Some of, ok, well all of my answers will contain some smart ass comment and or observation about me. So on to my favorite things....

Favorite animal(s)? does it really matter, do you think the animal kingdom keeps a tally on who's the most popular? Seals and Cats, i really like the whole feline family
Favorite TV show? who cares, they all suck. (psst: Survivor)
Favorite candy? i refuse to choose just one! easier to say I hate all gummy candy (ie: bears, worms, sour patch, yuck)
Favorite food? most of it, I really love pizza, and sushi and Los Mex....
Favorite eye color? ok, this one is just plain stupid!
Favorite song? Walking on Sunshine -Katrina and the Waves it always makes me smile
Favorite thing to do? another stupid question, do you really have ONE thing that is your fav??
Favorite color? Red, i also like blue, green, yellow and pink. So technically all of them. Does this help you get to know me?
Favorite nickname? some of my nicknames are private and I will not go into them, however, J calls me Bell and I love it, a few of our close friends also call me Bell, someone recently thought that Bell was part of my real name. My parents blessed me with a great name, my husband lovingly gave me one that comes from his heart.
Favorite country? what kind of question is this?
Favorite vacation spot? this one is easy, Beach Beach Beach
Favorite store? this is another really STUPID question again, does this help you know me?
Favorite kind of weather? cold, sunny. Im hot natured but I love sunshine, Im like Superman, the Sun powers me, recharges me.
Favorite thing about you? this one I can answer!!! I am unique, I refer to myself as odd, I was corrected recently by someone special to me, told I was Rare!

YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THINGS.
Least favorite animal(s)? ok, i have never officially met an animal I didnt like, a few I was frightened of, again is someone keeping a tally?
Least favorite clothing? heals, heals were created by a sadomasochistic idiot!
Least favorite music genre? polka, why you ask? its strange and annoying and scares me a little
Least favorite vacation spot? Oklahoma, went there once, that was enough for a lifetime.
Least favorite kind of weather? hot hot hot
Least favorite thing about you? that is deep, Im not saying. I'll let people talk anongst themselves on this one, go ahead!

Ok, that is more than enough. Not one of these questions really, well, questions the real person that is me. Like my favorite life changing moment, my favorite memory of my childhood, my worst memory of childhood, what I want to be when I grow up, what (as Roland says) legacy will I leave behind? Will it be one of these silly surveys that people read and judge? I dont know what my legacy will be, Im sure you'll read it on my blog one day, probably my obituary. "Loving, hardworking, dedicated woman dies today at the ripe old age of 113, she leaves behind... nothing, absolutely nothing, because she takes all she needs with her, nestled in her heart." Now thats a legacy!
